Answer me these three questions...

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e359/little49/93%20Toyota%20Paseo/150077268_493023903_0.jpg

So the gauges are in and I likes them lots.... They are true indiglo, not the reverse glow kind. This has got me going on fixing some shit that has bugged me for a few months now.

(FIRST THING) I got an armrest purchased this week and need to know how to get the entire center console out on an automatic so I can clean and paint the whole thing.

(SECOND THING) While it is out, I was considering putting a true seat belt (like the drivers side) onto the passengers side but have no idea if this is a real possibility... the trim pieces are all similar so I am guessing it will work.

(THIRD THING) Since I will have to slightly dissasemble the shifter, can I remove the little plastic mounting plate and stick a shift boot and chrome mount plate down instead?

1st: held on by 4 screws and 2 clips on the 2nd gen, maybe the same on yours - 2 clips push out underneath the dash, then there are 2 screws infront of and behind the chairs

2nd. True seatbelt? They should swap either way

3rd. Should be able to, though I can't remember what the auto-shifter looks like

Step 1. Slide seat all the way back and theres 2 phillips screws in front of the seats remove those
Step 2. Slide seat all the way forward and theres 2 phillips screws behind the seats remove those
Step 3. Lift console out, paint and reverse steps to install

Mines a 5 speed can't help u on the shifter, and I'm with Riko on the seat belt

With the "true seatbelt" thing.... my drivers side has the lap/shoulder belt together... but the passenger side has a separate lap belt and shoulder strap that go opposite directions and I wanna change those two out to one that's like the drivers seat.

I did it on mine. From what I remember all you need is the whole assembly minus the buckle (get the buckle anyways).

1. remove the shoulder belt piece by removing the cover that is under where the armrest should be. 3 bolts total. and then go to the door, and remove the lap belt, 2 screws for the plastic plate, and then 2 bolts for the assembly (i think you'll be reusing one of the lap belt bolts for the swivel piece that goes up top. I know for sure you need to reuse one).

2. remove interior panel that's under the rear passenger side window, as well as the cover that surrounds the rear pass window (dont forget to unplug your rear defroster). once removed, grab a dremel/di grinder to grind out a slit for the belt to sit on for the larger interior panel (the lower one). for the window panel, if you look on the inside, you'll see a perforated circle for you to drill a hole in for the swivel piece of the normal belt. everything else will already have tapped holes for the screws just like how there's holes ready for a rear wiper.

now onto the tricky shit - remembering as i go along here...

3. when all of the above has been removed, install the new belt, fitting it first to make sure it doesn't twist one too many times, etc. you'll have a hole where the lap belt assembly was because the carpet's cut for that. once you have the correct fitment, unscrew the swivel, reinstall the window panel, then screw in the swivel. for the bottom, you can only get everything so tight because of the space given, so get the belt retractor tightened down as much as you can by hand. once you're sure the belt's ready to go and the interior panels are back in, then you're all set to go.

4. the stupid buckle that's on the door. open the window, use a small flathead screwdriver to pry off the cover, and you'll see the two bolts holding that assembly together. remove, and you'll end up with 2 holes on the window pillar. i just put the screws back in and left it as is.

that should be the gist of the whole job.

Mine is the same and it's a '93 model.
It's kind of a stupid idea the way they did it but with the regulations they had in that time period, was one way to kind of force you to wear a belt.

yepper.. my drivers side has a standard 3-pt one piece seat belt.... but my passenger side has the goofy 2-piece with separate shoulder and lap belts. It has to be one of the wierdest things I've ever seen as far as seat belts goes.

I intended to remove the buckle and plug the screw holes. I can buy caps from the hardware store or I may just rig up a plug of some sort to stick in the hole (don't turn this into a dirty statement) For soem reason only my passenger seat has the 2-piece, the drivers side is normal.

As for the Console.... TELL MADCAT, he wants one.
