Air Conditioning

When I switch on the A/C in my '92 Paseo, the A/C light comes on but the air does not get cold (not that it really ever got super cold to begin with). It does not feel like the compressor is engaging at all. Someone on the ToyotaNation website (which I had to go to during the down time) had a similar problem and had a wire cooked by the radiator. I looked at the wire and didn't see any disconnect. The fuses are sealed so I can't see if they are burned up.

So, do you think it is an electrical or a compressor problem?

Well, I broke down and took it in to a mechanic. I was thinking that it might be electrical but found out that it wasn't. Evaporator core, drier, and the expansion valve all need to be replaced as the R134 is leaking out slowly from those areas. I looked up the parts online and they are about $170 +/-. After this R134 leaks out, I may get froggy and try to replace the parts myself one afternoon. According to the manual, half the work is up under the dash.

Has anyone ever replaced any or all of these parts before? Just looking for a little info or things to look out for or "easier if you take this off ore replace this too" stuff.

Thanks!

Woo hoo!!!!

I replaced the evaporator core, drier, and the expansion valve!!!. My A/C now works, not arctic cold, but cold none the less. Four and a half hours of labor plus $220 in parts and I have one cool Paseo.
